Decred is a new, open, innovative, and self-sufficient cryptocurrency with a community-managed blockchain. It is based on a hybridized proof-of-work/proof-of-stake (PoW/PoS) consensus system that caters to both PoW miners and PoS voters creating the perfect balance between the two groups.
This platform is the product of a merger of the ideas behind proof-of-activity (PoA) and MC2 which occurred in 2013. The project itself came into existence in April 2014 and was initially spearheaded by only one developer with other developers (from btcsuite) joining later on.
This cryptocurrency uses the Blake256 14-round mining algorithm. A cgminer fork was already available during the testing phase of the project. However, getwork is the only supported protocol, while stratum is not, not yet at least.
The cgminer works with both AMD and Nvidia GPUs, but ccMiner forks from tpruvot and sp do not support Decred despite the fact that they support the Blake256 14-round mining algorithm.
