MonaCoin’s blockchain was launched on January 1, 2014.
The idea of MonaCoin came to the mind of someone, named Mr. Watanabe, a visitor of Japanese bulletin board 2-Channel. It has been gaining popularity since it was first shown on the Japanese mainstream media, namely WBS TV Network Tokyo. At that time, the news network reported that a man had purchased a piece of land in Nagano and paid with monacoins.
