Zaif is a Japanese-based trading platform that allows users to buy and sell bitcoins, monacoins and NEM coins (XEM). The founders of Zaif designed the platform with the goal of making it a hub that would connect Japan to the global cryptocurrency market while taking the place that used to belong to Mt. Gox.
This is how Zaif came into existence: Tech Bureau Inc, the parent company of Zaif, received $835,000 in funding from Nippon Technology Venture Partners, a Japanese venture capital firm, and purchased Etwings, a local digital currency exchange. Having improved and modernized Etwings, Tech Bureau Inc. rolled out the purchase and renamed it "Zaif Exchange".
According to the Zaif corporate blog, in April 2016, the platform exceeded 45,000 BTC ($19 million) in daily trading volume. During the peak, Zaif accounted for 64% of all trading in JPY, in comparison with other Japanese exchanges.
Zaif has an extremely handy service: Zaif Coin Reserve, which allows for automatic purchases of digital currencies by deducting preset amounts of money directly from users’ bank accounts each month, and then converting the deducted funds into the users' cryptocurrencies of choice. Tech Bureau was the first company to offer this kind of service in Japan.
Users can fund their accounts with bank transfers or cash deposits denominated in the Japanese Yen (JPY).
